April Showers Bring May FLOUR

Since it’s now May,
April showers went away,
My flowers are sprouting
bright in full display.

That old spring saying
is simple and true,
But Willie got it wrong,
as he tends to do.

He came over grinning,
proud as can be,
Holding up flour
like a prize recipe.

Said April showers
bring May FLOUR, you see!
I said, “Oh Willie,
have mercy on me.”

But come June,
wouldn’t you know what grew?
The freshest baked flowers
you ever did view.

My whole garden was rising
like yeast in the sun,
with dough-lighted daisies,
popping up one by one.

So now I just nod
when he gets things wrong.
Turns out that old fool
was right all along!
